Assistant Director James Rocillo has been a professional musician & educator for the past 16 years. He has studied with trumpet greats, Bobby Shew, Tony Lujan, Ron Stout, Sal Cracchiolo and Charlie Davis.   As a musician he works as a freelance artist in the fields of both classical and jazz. He has performed throughout California, as well as Canada, Hawaii, and Japan. In 2002 he recorded his first solo CD entitled “Front & Center”.  This CD features James playing jazz standards on trumpet and Flugelhorn. He is featured as a soloist with the Blue Note Swing Orchestra on their CD entitled “Battle of the big bands” which was recorded in the spring of 2005.  In addition he has recorded with Delphi Recording Artists “Brown Bag”.
As an educator He has been teaching since the age of 17.  He was the founder and director of the Spirit of Santa Fe Springs Youth Band from 1990-1999. He was the director of bands at Saint Paul High School (Santa Fe Springs) from 1994-1999 and Bishop Montgomery High School (Redondo Beach) form 1999-2000. He has been the assistant director of bands at Ayala High School since fall of 2000.  Presently he is on staff at Valley View High School (Moreno Valley) where he has been the director of Jazz Ensembles for the past 5 years. In addition he has been on staff with the music department at Nogales High School since 2000. As an adjudicator James has judged throughout California as well as in Missouri, and Nebraska.
In the Drum Corps world he has worked with Yamato Drum & Bugle Corps (Osaka, Japan) and the Concord Blue Devils B corps.  He has been a caption head for the Troopers drum and bugle corps (2001-2003) and Esperanza drum and bugle corps (2004).  Since 2005 he has been on the brass staff of the six time DCI Champions Santa Clara Vanguard.
Currently James is pursuing his degree in Business Marketing at the University of Phoenix.  He will complete his degree program in winter of 2008.
James resides in Chino Hills Ca, where he lives with his beautiful wife Stacey.
